Wine Arbitrage |

There is arbitrage in wine just as there is in any other commodity. And fortunately, in the wine markets, there are many, many opportunities to take advantage of at all price levels. You don't have to have deep pockets to take advantage of wine arbitrage. I would not want to say that there are large sums of money to be made on a small level in the arbitrage of wine, but I would definitely say that there are very large amounts of money to be saved by a very small study of wine arbitrage. Naturally, this all depends on your definition of large and small. If you think that 15%, 30%, or 60% REAL CASH inefficiencies (spot, not annual) are small, you might not be interested. First you must remember that a penny saved is much more than a penny earned. A penny saved is tax free. Also, it is much easier to buy low than to sell high. In any case, there is real money to be found in wine arbitrage. Arbitrage is making/saving money by taking advantage of inefficiencies in any market. And there are vast inefficiencies in the wine markets. First, it is very easy to weed out wines which are not worth bothering about. Second, it is very easy to find wines among the exact same varietal of similar quality at vastly different prices. While bottles of wine are not fungible, for most purposes, a Bordeaux is a Bordeaux. A Chianti is a Chianti. A Sangiovese is a Sangiovese. Obviously, there would be differences among lots, but within the variety, the character and flavor should be related. The biggest difference is often in quality and price and one usually has nothing to do with the other. You can take advantage of this. If you know how, there is absolutely no trick to find one Sangiovese which is similar to another in taste and quality yet one is priced less than 1/3 of the other. My book tells you how to do this. And it is not rocket science. 10 Minutes after you read the book you can be buying wine at large savings. |
